Wojtek Blecharz has composed various pieces for orchestra, chamber, solo, choir, electro-acoustic as well as music for performances. Of the latter, he has worked with Jacek Łumiński and the Silesian Dance Theater of Bytom (Poland); Kokoro Dance, Vancouver; City Dance Ensemble, Washington; Coming Back to the Roots, Fringe Festival for Arts, Philadelphia; Theatre of Witness, Philadelphia; Ballet Met, Columbus (Ohio); Theater “Powszechny”, Warsaw; Anka Majcher (Rotterdamse Dansacademie). Blecharz has won Third Prize in the Musica Sacra Competition for Composers in Częstochowa (Poland, 2004); Third Prize in the A. Didur's Competition for Composers in Sanok (Poland, 2005); two Prizes in Competition for Members of Polish Composers' Union Youth Circle (2006, 2007), Prize in the International Competition for Composers in Jihlava (Czech Republic, 2006), a honorable mention in The Esoterics POLYPHONOS composers competition in Seattle (USA, 2007) and the main “Tadeusz Baird Award” for young composers (Poland, 2007). Wojtek’s pieces have been performed at the Gaude Mater International Festival of Sacral Music, the Laboratory of Contemporary Music, the Generations VII, Warsaw Autumn (Concert of the Polish Composers' Union Youth Circle), Warsaw Music Encounters, The Bebersee Festival (Germany), Académie Musicale di Vilecroze (France), Musica Polonica Nova, Poznańska Wiosna Muzyczna. Since 2001-2006 Wojtek Blecharz had been studying composition at the Frederick Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw with M. Borkowski. He finished his studies in Warsaw in December 2006 with the highest note and received Master of Arts degree in composition. In 2005, was granted a Ministry of Culture and National Heritage stipend for outstanding achievement as a student of the Frederick Chopin Academy of Music (Warsaw). In 2005, was granted an Académie Musicale de Vilecroze (France) stipend for composers workshop led by Nöel Lee. In 2007, was granted a Ministry of Culture and National Heritage stipend for young artists and aritstic stipend of ZAIKS. In 2005 got a commission from the Polish Composers' Union for the 60th anniversary of this union (program supported by Polish Ministry of Culture called "Signs of Time"), in 2007 got a commission from the Bebersee Festival (Germany). In July 2007 took part in Stockhausen-Courses for composers in Kürten (Germany). In 2007 he was invited by the Musica Moderna Festival of Contemporary Music in Lodz (Poland) to give a lecture on his music and by Polish Radio for an1 hour interview about his work and music. In 2008 he received a commission from Ensemble Intégrales (Hamburg), which will be premiered in September 2008 in Hamburg opera house (project “International Youngstars”). In 2008 Wojciech Blecharz will start his doctoral studies in composition at University of California, San Diego
