Biography

BRITTA BYSTRÖM was born in Sundsvall, Sweden, in 1977 and received her first musical training as a trumpet player at the local Music school. As a teenager, she started to compose, and was accepted as a student of composition at the Royal College of Music in 1995, where Pär
Lindgren and Bent Sørensen were two of her teachers.

Britta Byström has written for most musical constallations: chamber music, vocal music and opera, but her main focus has been orchestral music. Byströms music has been performed by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, International Youth Wind Orchestra, Musica
Vitae and Kroumata.

"I try to create what I think is poetic and lovely music, which I hope will invite the listener to an experience of beauty."

Byström's music shows a particular care about timbre, a sensitivity to the resonance of music that could be described as impressionistic.
