Dedić, Srđan

Biography

Srđan Dedić (1965, Zagreb, Croatia) studied composition with Stanko Horvat at the Zagreb Academy of Music, were he graduated in 1989. He specialized in electronic music at the University of Strassbourg with François-Bernard Mâche (1990-91) and continued his studies in composition at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Geert van Keulen (1991-93). From 1998 to 1999 he studied composition with Joi Yuasa in Tokyo, along with the traditional Japanese instruments with members of the Pro Musica Nipponia Ensemble as the winner of the Japanese Government Fellowship Program for Artists from Abroad (Bunka-Cho). Since 2005 he works as a docent in the Department of Composition and Music Theory at the Academy of Music of Zagreb University.

His works were performed by distinguished orchestras and performers, such as the Louisville Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Orchestral International, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic, both Croatian and Slovenian Radio and Television Orchestra. Many festivals featured his compositions, ex. ISCM's World Music Days in 1997 and 2003, UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers, Gaudeamus International Week in Amsterdam, Music Biennale Zagreb, etc. He received a number of important awards for his work. From 1991 he has been developing computer theories and applications in the area of computer assisted composition.
