Dubravko Detoni (1937, Križevci, Croatia), composer, pianist and writer, received his education in Zagreb (Stjepan Šulek, Svetislav Stančić), Sienna (Guido Agosti), Warszaw (Witold Lutoslawski), Darmstadt (Karlheinz Stockhausen, György Ligeti) and Paris (John Cage). He has written 128 works of orchestral, concert (a number of piano concertos, etc.), chamber, solo (especially piano), vocal and electronic music and 8 books of poetry and essays. He is the founder and artistic director of the ensemble for the new sound ACEZANTEZ with which he has toured most of the European countries and a part of America and Asia. He has received numerous awards and honours in Croatia and abroad. His works have been performed on all continents, at all major international festivals, and have been published in more than forty editions both in Croatia and abroad. In his compositions he discloses his aspiration for balanced musical expression which is mostly based on dramatic change of contrasts, without the agressive programatic illustration though. He employs the classical set of instruments and the heritage of the electronic music to an equal extent, but in order to enrich the sound he frequently combines expressive possibilities of both idioms.
For his piece dolce furioso he has received discography award Porin for a lifetime achievement (2007).
