Biography

Mirela Ivičević (1980, Split, Croatia) graduated composition in the class of Željko Brkanović at the Zagreb Academy of Music in 2004, and continued her studies on a postgraduate course of Media composition and applied music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, with Klaus Peter Sattler (Media composition) and Christian Mühlbacher (Jazz composition and arrangement). Her work includes compositions for solo instrument, chamber ensemble, choir, symphony orchestra, Big band, pieces for instruments and electronics, tape music, music for film, for various folklore and jazz ensembles, as well as one opera (Za tri lipe – Threefairlady opera, commission of Music Biennale Zagreb 2007). She was awarded various prizes some of which are Rector's Award of University of Zagreb for the piece Phantom no.3 for symphony orchestra (2004) and Croatian Ministry of Culture’s Award for the piece Unity na odmoru for clarinet and string orchestra (2006), and received performances by many renowned musicians such as Zagreb Philharmonic, Cantus ensemble, Nouvelle Cuisine etc. In 2005 her composition Versi for alt saxophone and piano represented Croatia at ISCM´s World Music Days, and the same year she was awarded scholarship for the most gifted students of the UNIVIE, given by the Stiftung Dr. Robert und Lina Thyll – Dürr (Switzerland).She is the youngest regular member of HDS - Croatian composers´ society , as well as of Croatian freelance artists´ association.
