Aleksander Kościów (b. 1974) studied composition with prof. Marian Borkowski and viola with prof. Błażej Sroczyński at the Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy and completed his studies in 1998. Henceforth he has been teaching at the same academy (to achieve Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2008). Moreover he gave lectures and classes in Germany (Munich/Weikersheim contemporary music course and festival), the US (Sand Diego State University) and South Corea (Keimyung-Chopin University, Daegu).
His compositions were performed at numerous concerts and festivals inland and abroad (Russia, Ukraine, Japan, France, Germany, Japan, USA, Italy). He is a prize-winner at several composition competitions, holder of the Fulbright's Foundation Junior Grant (2002) and a member of the Polish Composers' Union and the Contemporary Music Laboratory as well as ZAiKS. Since 2000 he has been co-operating with Joe Alter, American modern ballet choreographer, for whom he wrote several pieces so far, to be performed at dance festivals and performances in Poland and the US.
