Marián Lejava studied composition with Peter Martinček and conducting with J. Karaba (1990 – 1996) at the Conservatory in Bratislava. Already in 1993 he was awarded the 1st prize at the Compositional Competition of Alexander Moyzes for his piece String Quartet No. 1. Later he continued his study of composition in the class of Vladimír Bokes at the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava and in conducting he was a student of Bystrík Režucha, Róbert Stankovský and Stanislav Macura (1996 – 2002). In 2002 - 2005 as a postgraduate student he continued both his compositional (with Vladimír Bokes) and conducting (with Ondrej Lenárd) studies. Since 1996 Marián Lejava participated in several international compositional and conducting courses: in Szombathely, Hungary; Reichenau, Austria; EDDC School workshops in Arnhem, Netherlands: music for dance performances; Summer composing courses in Český Krumlov; in 2001 and 2003 CASMI – composition courses in Prague; OCNMH composition seminars in Ostrava; courses in Weimar; Edenkoben and Trebnitz etc., where he collaborated with experts like R. Houlighan, A. Wilheima, E. Urbanner, K. Huber, Ch. Wolff, T. Murail, P. Niblock, J.-Y. Bousser, P. Eötvös, Z. Nagy, A. Lucier, G. Herbig, M. Kopelent, P. Kotík, L. Kubik, M. Hermann. As a composerhe was awarded several significant prizes in Slovakia as well as abroad. In 2005 he acquired a scholarship of the Jozef Bulva Foundation for writing his Symphony No. 1 - Metamorphoses Concertantes for chamber orchestra. As a conductor, in 2003 and 2004 was Marián Lejava assistant to Zsolt Nagy by (OCNMH ´03, Maerz musik ´04). Besides his compositional and conducting activities is Marián Lejava active as an organizer of music life and belongs to the establish-members and dramaturgist of association SOOZVUK. Since 2006 Marián Lejava has been a guest conductor of the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava and is a regular conductor of Melos Ethos Ensemble and VENI Ensemble.
