Rei Munakata was born in Yokohama, Japan, and was raised in both Japan and China as his home countries. In recent years, his home has been USA and Sweden. As a conductor, Rei Munakata has worked with Sundsvall Chamber Orchestra, Bournmouth Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Sinfonietta, Athelas Sinfonietta, Ensemble Gageego!, Hradec Kralove Philharmonics, Adygeya National Symphony Orchestra, Stockholms Läns Blåsarorkester, and many amateur symphony orchestras in Europe. Rei is currently the principal conductor of the Curious Chamber Players, a Stockholm based group specializing in contemporary music. As a composer, Rei Munakata has written music for chamber groups, ensembles of different sizes, orchestral music, instrumental sound installations, electronics, and conceptual music. Rei..s piano trio (The Mocking Maze 2004) has been selected to represent Sweden for Ung Nordisk Musik Festival 2005 in Helsinki.
