Marko Ruždak (1946, Zagreb, Croatia) completed his clarinet and composition studies at the Zagreb Academy of Music, and then worked with Ivo Malec and Pierre Schaeffer (Paris), as well with Milko Kelemen (Cologne). Since 1979 he has been lecturing at the Zagreb Academy of Music, becoming full professor in its Department of Composition and Music Theory in 1991. His work is characterized by a rare delicacy of a language deeply grounded in reflective space. His choice of instruments and ensembles he composes for is exceptionally intriguing. He establishes the precision of tone perception in the beauty of formal thought. Never losing musical accuracy, he builds his compositions with a clear dramaturgic horizon characterized by a deeply moving intensity.
