Biography

Agnieszka Stulgińska, composer, b. on 5th September 1978 in Ostrołęka. She graduated from the departments of Choral Conducting, Music Education and Eurhythmics as well as Composition in the Music Academy in Gdańsk (after composition studies with Krzysztof Olczak). In the academic year 2005-06, as an Erasmus student, she worked with Luc van Hove in Hogeschool voor Wetenschap & Kunst Lemmensinstituut in Leuven (Belgium). She also took part in The Course of Percussion Music for Composers, International Workshops of Contemporary Music - New Technologies and Multimedia Art in Gdańsk. At present, as a Belgian Government scholar, she is taking a 10-month residence and postgraduate studies in composition with Luc van Hove in the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp (Belgium).
Stulgińska's compositions have been performed at numerous festivals in Poland and abroad, e.g. at the Baltic Festival of Science (2004, 2005, 2008), 1st Flying Academy of Contemporary Music (2006), the "New Sound from Gdańsk" festival (2006), 14th Audio Art Festival (2006), music@venture (2007), Musica Moderna in Łódź (2007), Centre for Contemporary Music "Łaźnia" in Gdańsk (2008), Gdańsk Music Festival (2008), as well as single-composer concerts in the Music Academy and Old Town Hall in Gdańsk, Polish Radio Studio in Gdańsk, Contemporary Arts Centre Stuk in Leuven, the Conservatory, deSingel and Vlinderpaleis in Antwerp, by such ensembles as: Kwartludium, Prometheus, I Solisti del Vento, Lutosławski Piano Duo, Neoquartet, Elise Artoisenet & Marie-Noelle Betce Piano Duo. In September 2005, the clarinettist Andrzej Wojciechowski received a honorable mention at the 9th International Competition for Performers of Contemporary Chamber Music in Cracow for a performance of Stulgińska's composition. In June 2006 she held a graduation concert at which her works were performed by students of the Music Academy in Gdańsk.
Agnieszka Stulgińska was a 3rd prize winner in the 46th Tadeusz Baird competition (1st prize was not granted). In 2008, she obtained a scholarship from the Polish Minister of Culture and the National Heritage. Since 2007, she has participated in a 4-year programme promoting 13 composers selected by the programme board of the European Krzysztof Penderecki Music Centre. In January 2007 she was selected as the author of a multimedia project for the music@venture festival, whereas in February 2007 she won a competition for the performance of a work organised by Prometheus ensemble.
