LECTURE-PERFORMANCE SIMON STEEN-ANDERSEN - Movement and sound Champ d'Action, deSingel and RE: NEW Music. The piece "Next To Beside Besides" can be regarded as a choreography for a musician and his instrument - with accompanying sound. Internationale Kunstencampus deSingel, October 20 at 20:00.
The Danish composer Simon Steen Andersen (b. 1976) studied composition at the conservatory in Aarhus, Freiburg, Buenos Aires and Copenhagen, where he was taught by Bent Sorensen and Mathias Spahlinger. Andersen won several awards such as the Kranichsteinerprijs in Darmstadt and
Presence China 2008. His compositions are played at festivals around the world by many leading ensembles and orchestras.
His compositions revolve around gestures, movement and energy. In the series' Next To Beside Besides" he brings these issues to a radical conclusion. This series consists of a number of translations from the original choreographic work "Beside Besides" (cello) for other
instruments, such as guitar, percussion and violin. This "translation" refers not only to the notation as in a conventional transcription, but above all their movements in relationship to the musician and his instrument. "Next To Beside Besides" can actually be regarded as a choreography for a musician and his instrument - with accompanying sound.
