Concerto for Piano and Orchestra

Hebrides Ensemble – Scotland’s foremost chamber ensemble –  next week embarks on its 2nd Re:new project, by inviting one of Denmark’s finest composers to Scotland to work with the group and students of Edinburgh and Aberdeen Universities. Hebrides Ensemble will perform works by Hans Abrahamsen, including his Six Pieces for Horn, Violin and Piano, as well as 3 new works written by students of Edinburgh University. March 19 in Edinburgh and March 21 in Aberdeen.

Hans will rehearse with both the ensemble and give masterclasses for
upcoming composers, culminating in a lunchtime performance of all works
in Edinburgh’s Reid Hall on the 19th March. Hans and the ensemble will
then travel to Aberdeen, where a further performance will also be
complimented by discussions with the composer on the 21st March in
Cowdray Hall.

Friday 19th March          1pm, Reid Hall, Edinburgh University
Sunday 21st March        7.45pm Cowdray Hall, Aberdeen University

" The piano concerto starts entirely as I usually start, with this filigree in the piano and many simultaneous layers," Hans Abrahamsen has explained: ‘The beginning is music that could continue almost minimalistically ad infinitum. But it doesn’t. Instead it has a seizure after just thirty seconds. It literally comes to a halt!"
