PresentationThe Croatian Composers' Society (HDS) was founded in 1945 as an only association of musical creators in Croatia. Today, the HDS gathers 312 regular members (composers, musicologists, musical writers) and more than 4.500 associated members. During its more than 60 years of existence this well organized and well equipped organization with its knowledge, creative and organizational potential, together with links to other such organizations, ensembles, institutions and individuals from around the world, significantly influences the musical life of Croatia with a sole purpose of promoting and establishing Croatian musical creativity in the country and abroad. HDS organizes important musical events such as: the Music Biennale Zagreb (International Festival of Contemporary Music), the International Music Festival in Pula, the Zagrebfest, the International Jazz Days, Spring Jazz Festival, Lisinski Jazz Series & HDS, and cycle Cantus Ensemble & Lisinski. For the purpose of raising the professional level in promotion of the Croatian music and musicians at home and abroad, and improvement of realization own manifestations, HDS founded in 2000 Cantus Ltd. In 2001 Croatian Composers' Society founded the Cantus Ensemble which has specialized in the 20th and 21st century music. Hundreds of works and scores published in "Ars Croatica" editions is a part of rich publishing activity of HDS and they are a considerable contribution to our musical literature which is of great significance concerning the education, as well as possibilities for the performing and promotion of Croatian authors. The HDS is also publisher of CDs of the Croatian composers and artists and representative magazine "Cantus" which is published 6 times a year in Croatian and English. As main protector of music copyrights in Croatia, the Croatian Composers' Society through its professional service HDS ZAMP achieves copyright protection for its regular and associate members and for more than 2 million foreign authors whose works are broadcast and performed on the territory of the Republic of Croatia. Reciprocal agreements with major international copyrights associations enable the protection of Croatian authors abroad as well as the protection of foreign authors in Croatia. In addition, HDS ZAMP also leases music materials. The HDS is a member of several international associations, including CISAC, BIEM, ISCM, ECPNM, EFA and ECF. The fact that the Croatian Composers' Society has been successfully existing for a period of more than sixty years, undoubtedly implies its incorporation into cultural heritage of the nation to which it belongs and recognition as one of the authentic creators and promoters of national music culture. |
