Programme Note („Flashroom“)

„Flashroom“ was composed in spring 2008. A main feature of the piece is a seemingly loose compilation of a number of miniatures, which derive from another piece of mine („Herbarium“). This miniatures are held together by rhythmical structures which remind of morse signals. At the same time I worked with cutting and overlapping techniques used by film makers. As none of these miniatures have a duration of more than 30-40 seconds, similar to the average duration of a news block, one could say that „Flashroom“ is a news reel set in music, which was the main formal aspect of this composition.

Additional notes

'Flashroom' was commissioned by Ensemble Reconsil (conductor Roland Freisitzer) for their concert series 2008/2009. But the premiere of the piece was cancelled, which is also the reason why we cannot supply a recording. The piece will be premiered in March 2010 - as agreed with Roland Freisitzer; should any other ensemble choose the piece for a performance before March 2010 this would be no problem with Ensemble Reconsil, Roland Freisitzer and the commission conditions.
