The title of Chrichan Larson’s work, Tre campi ('Three Fields'), refers to both instrumentation and form. The ensemble is divided into three quintets, which all form homogenous groups. In the middle are harp and strings; on the sides are, respectively, brass instruments with metal percussion and woodwinds with harpsichord. The piece is written in three movements, which are, however, played attacca (without a pause in between). 'I have worked in a similar fashion before, with larger ensembles. My music often presents a continuing process, and there does not have to be any event or sudden epiphany behind the conception of a piece. One can rather speak of a continuing reflection over what music can be.' KammarensembleN premiered Tre campi in spring 1998. Tony Lundman (from PSCD 125) Translation: George Kentros
